I used to think spa days meant going to an actual spa.
Which I could never afford. Spa treatments are expensive.
Then I realized you can literally recreate a spa experience at home for like €30.
Not fancy. Not expensive. Just intentional and relaxing.
I started doing at-home spa days once a month and honestly it’s been life-changing for my mental health.
It’s not about the products. It’s about taking time to care for yourself without distractions.
At-home spa day: set up a relaxing space, do a long skincare routine, take a bath with products, do a face mask, light candles, play music. Takes 1-2 hours. Costs €20-40. Feels luxurious without spa prices.
The space:
Bathroom ideally. Clean. Organized. Remove clutter.
Lighting:
Dim overhead lights. Light candles instead.
Brands: Any candle (€5-15), or use lamp with warm bulbs.
Music:
Calming playlist. Spotify spa playlists work.
Temperature:
Warm bathroom. Not cold.
Extras:
Soft towels. Robe optional. Slippers nice.
0:00-0:15 – Set Up and Relax
Light candles. Start music. Draw bath. Get settled.
0:15-0:45 – Long Bath
Soak for 30 minutes. Just relax. Do nothing.
Bath products: Epsom salts (€5), essential oils (€8), bath bombs (€3 each), or just warm water.
0:45-1:15 – Face and Body Care
Get out of tub. Pat dry (not fully).
Apply face mask (€8-20).
Do body scrub or exfoliate (€8-15).
1:15-1:45 – Skincare Routine
Remove mask. Do full skincare routine (cleanser, toner, serums, moisturizer, eye cream).
Takes longer because you’re actually taking time.
1:45-2:00 – Final Touches
Paint nails (optional). Apply body lotion (€8-15). Get fully ready.
Total: 2 hours of intentional self-care.
Total: €43
That’s it. That’s a complete spa experience.
Total: €88
Still way cheaper than actual spa (which costs €150+).
This is where you actually do most of the self-care work.
Cleanser: (2 minutes)
Gentle cleanse. Take your time.
Exfoliator (optional): (2 minutes)
Physical or chemical exfoliation.
Toner (optional): (1 minute)
Balancing toner or hydrating toner.
Serum: (2 minutes)
Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, whatever you use.
Face Mask: (10-15 minutes)
Sheet mask, clay mask, cream mask. Lie down. Relax.
Eye Cream: (1 minute)
Gentle application around eyes.
Moisturizer: (2 minutes)
Rich moisturizer. Take time massaging face.
Total skincare time: 20-30 minutes.
That’s the whole point. Actually taking time instead of rushing.
Choose budget or splurge. Both work.
Don’t check phone:
Put it away. Spa rule.
Set timer so you don’t worry about time:
Helps you actually relax instead of watching the clock.
Prepare snacks beforehand:
Tea, water, fruit. Something you can enjoy during.
Comfortable clothing after:
Soft robe or cozy clothes. Not tight jeans.
No plans after:
Give yourself time to decompress. Don’t rush into other activities.
Make it regular:
Monthly spa days are better than once-a-year. Consistency > luxury
Monthly is good. Some people do weekly. Depends on schedule and budget.
No. Budget products work fine. It’s about the routine and the time, not the brands.
Hard. Need uninterrupted time. Maybe after kids bedtime or when partner watches them.
Still do the skincare part. Shower instead of bath. Less luxurious but still spa-like.
Yes! Couples spa day. Each do your own routine. Enjoy together.
At-home spa days are affordable luxury.
You don’t need expensive spas.
You need time, candles, and skincare products.
That’s it.
This is self-care that doesn’t require much money.
Just intention.
